A day after they made headlines stating there’s not enough selectors to pick the senior side and support staff for the ensuing Ranji Trophy season, Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) late on Sunday night announced the squad for the first two matches of the redball tournament.While Sakibul Gani has been selected to lead the 15-member side, young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been chosen as his deputy by selectors Vishnu Shankar, Anant Prakash and Sunil Kumar Singh.However, as per the directives of the Ombudsman, BCCI, and Supreme Court, the identity of the two selectors, who had been properly appointed for the job out of the aforementioned three names, has been kept confidential since the full five-member committee is not available till date.Asked how BCA managed to pick the squad when they had just two selectors as per the BCCI criteria till Saturday, a BCA official told TOI, “As we were in constant talk with BCCI, a stop-gap arrangement was made as per the Board’s directive to select one selector as the next best available one from the applications we received against the advertisement for the senior level selectors.“He is not fully satisfying the selection criteria, but is the best available choice for now. This has been done with BCCI’s approval as Ranji Trophy is only a couple of days away, and we need to field a team. Hopefully, we will be able to get the other three selectors, fulfilling the criteria, in the meantime.”
