The Supreme Court petition highlighted serious concerns about India-Pakistan cricket relations. The petitioners argued that playing cricket with Pakistan sends the wrong message, especially after recent terror attacks like Phalangam and Operation Sindoor where Indian soldiers lost their lives.The plea specifically stated: “Cricket between nations is meant to show harmony and friendship. But after the Phalagam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, when our people died and our soldiers risked everything, playing with Pakistan sent the opposite message that while our soldiers sacrificed their lives, we are celebrating sports with the same country sheltering terrorists.”The petitioners expressed worry about hurting the sentiments of terror victims’ families. They emphasized that national dignity and citizen security should take priority over entertainment. The petition claimed that such cricket matches could negatively impact the morale of armed forces and the nation.India-Pakistan cricket matches traditionally generate massive interest, not just for the sporting rivalry but also due to the complex political relationship between the two nations.
