A PIL meant to oust a neighbour has ricocheted on the petitioner himself. Allahabad HC has ordered eviction of Omraj, a resident of Handia in UP’s Prayagraj, after finding his house built on gram sabha pond land. Omraj had filed a PIL accusing fellow villager Lalmani Patel of stealing land from the public pond.Omraj had moved court to enforce a 2022 tehsildar eviction order against Lalmani. During hearings, Lalmani’s lawyer said the order was flawed. The court then ordered a probe, which revealed the petitioner’s house sat on pond land. Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal held the petitioner guilty.
