ICMR issues licences to industry partners for 9 breakthrough techs

NEW DELHI: The Indian Council for Medical Research Wednesday issued licences of nine breakthrough health technologies to industry partners.This includes multistage malaria vaccine, which was licenced to Indian Immunologicals Limited, Techinvention Lifecare Private Limited, Panacea Biotec Limited, Biological E Limited, and Zydus Lifesciences and a novel glycoconjugate Salmonella vaccine that was licenced to Biological E Limited.Officials said the manufacturing strength and distribution networks of industry partners will be instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of these technologies. “This public-private partnership is a powerful catalyst for advancing India’s healthcare goals and plays a vital role in the journey toward achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047,” the ICMR said.The Regional Medical Research Centre in Bhubaneswar under the ICMR has developed an advanced vaccine that can prevent plasmodium falciparum infection which causes severe and fatal Malaria. Malaria is a vector-borne disease caused by Plasmodium species parasites which spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes. While India has made strides in managing malaria through interventions like indoor residual spraying, long-lasting insecticidal nets and early diagnosis and complete treatment, researchers say, interests have also been drawn towards vaccines.
