Harry Maguire has emerged as a high-profile target for two Saudi Pro League clubs during the league’s extended transfer window, but the Manchester United centre-back has made it clear that he won’t consider any offers until the end of the current season. Despite Middle Eastern interest and his contract nearing expiration, Maguire remains committed to seeing out his deal, while other players in United’s bloated goalkeeping roster could be on the move before the window closes.

Saudi Pro League clubs make a move, but Maguire holds his ground

As of September 5, 2025, two Saudi Arabian clubs have formally approached Harry Maguire with lucrative offers, according to The Sun. The 32-year-old England international, however, has turned them down, at least for now. With the Saudi transfer window still open until September 23, the opportunity for a late move exists in theory, but Maguire has made it clear that he plans to complete the final year of his contract with Manchester United. Although his previous contract ended last season, United exercised a one-year extension clause, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2026. Under current FIFA regulations, Maguire will be free to negotiate pre-contract terms with foreign clubs from January 2026. According to reports, he remains open to extending his stay beyond that date if the club expresses a desire to retain him. The Sheffield-born defender, who joined United from Leicester in 2019 for a world-record £80 million fee, has since made over 200 appearances and briefly captained the club from 2020 until 2023. He lost the armband to Bruno Fernandes last year, but retains a valued squad role under new manager Rúben Amorim, who reportedly played a key role in convincing him to trigger the contract extension earlier this year. Maguire has started the 2025–26 season on the bench, but he has featured in two cameo appearances so far in the Premier League. While he hasn’t ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia next summer, any mid-season transfer appears highly unlikely, especially in the run-up to what could be his final World Cup appearance. By the time the 2030 tournament takes place, to be co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, Maguire will be 37 years old.

Goalkeeping shake-up: Lammens arrival sparks uncertainty

While Maguire is staying put for now, Manchester United’s goalkeeping department is in a state of flux. The club added Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on September 2, the final day of the European transfer window, for a fee of £18.2 million($24.57 million). The 22-year-old Belgian is considered a long-term investment, but his arrival has immediate implications for the rest of the squad. Lammens is now one of four senior goalkeepers at the club, joining Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, and Tom Heaton. Both Onana and Bayindir are reportedly available for transfer before the Saudi and Turkish windows close on September 23 and September 12, respectively.Andre Onana, who joined from Italian club Inter Milan in 2023, has fallen out of favour under Amorim. He started the summer with reported interest from Saudi clubs and was heavily linked with Turkish club Galatasaray as a potential replacement for Ederson, who left English club Manchester City to join their Turkish rivals, Fenerbahçe. Onana remained at United through the deadline, but Galatasaray eventually signed Uğurcan Çakır instead. Despite the failed move, Onana’s future remains uncertain. With the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, the 29-year-old Cameroon international could be eager to secure a move now to avoid complications during that period. A transfer this month would offer both him and United a clean break before the tournament begins.

Bayindir’s United stint may be cut short

Another name likely to leave Carrington this month is Altay Bayindir. The Turkish goalkeeper arrived from Fenerbahçe in 2023 but has made limited appearances and now finds himself pushed down the pecking order following Lammens’ arrival. With the Turkish transfer window open until September 12, there’s still a window of opportunity for Bayindir to return to his homeland. Club insiders believe he would welcome a move back to Turkey, especially if first-team opportunities remain scarce at United. Bayindir’s situation is notably different from Onana’s. While Onana is an experienced international with a higher market value, Bayindir’s limited appearances make him a more likely candidate for a swift departure.

What’s next for Maguire and United?

Despite interest from abroad, Harry Maguire remains settled at Manchester United, for now. He has made it clear to both club officials and potential suitors in Saudi Arabia that he won’t consider a move until summer 2026, when he may become a free agent if no contract extension is offered. Should United express a desire to keep him, Maguire has not ruled out continuing at Old Trafford. The next major milestone comes in January 2026, when he becomes eligible to speak with foreign clubs under Bosman rules. Until then, all signs point to Maguire staying put and competing for minutes under Amorim, who still values his presence in the dressing room and on the pitch. Meanwhile, United’s immediate attention is likely to turn to its overloaded goalkeeping roster, where Onana and Bayindir are both potential late-window departures. With Lammens now officially part of the squad, decisions will need to be made swiftly — and possibly before next week’s Turkish deadline.
