Delhi Jan Sunwai: CM Rekha Gupta holds first programme after attack; police rings, CCTVs & more

NEW DELHI: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta once again began her public hearing programme, Jan Sunwai, on Wednesday morning, under strict security measures. This comes a fortnight after the last one came to an abrupt end as she was attacked during the programme. The programme began at 8 am, with citizens from across the capital gathering to raise their grievances and seek help. The chief minister remained seated on a chair as people approached her one by one, submitting their applications and speaking to her through a microphone placed across her table. In earlier sessions, she would walk among the crowd, freely interacting with participants. But after the attack on August 20, when a man from Rajkot in Gujarat attacked her during a Jan Sunwai at the Mukhya Mantri Jan Sewa Sadan on Raj Niwas Marg, security was significantly tightened.Police personnel, including female staff, formed a protective inner ring around the chief minister. Attendees were frisked with metal detectors, while CCTV cameras monitored the proceedings to ensure order and safety. In a post on X, Gupta shared that she had met citizens from various parts of the city and directed officers for swift redressal of their issues.“The interaction with the public always fills me with a new energy and deepens the commitment towards service. Jan Sunwai is a new tradition,” she wrote.“Every citizen is heard during ‘Jan Sunwai,’ and each suggestion becomes a beacon of Delhi’s development,” she said, adding that public service and resolving grievances remained the Delhi government’s topmost priority.Residents thronged the chief minister’s residence at Raj Niwas in large numbers, many arriving with hopes of solutions to their personal problems.“I requested the chief minister for clearing my name on the waiting list for Haj. Madam said it will be done,” said Fauzia, a resident of Maujpur.Officials said around 165 people submitted their grievances and suggestions during the session, with Gupta directing immediate action on them. Many also greeted her with bouquets as a gesture of goodwill.
