NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday said the conviction rate in Haryana has doubled to 80 per cent following the implementation of the country’s newly introduced criminal laws. He was speaking at a public event in Kurukshetra, where he also launched multiple development projects and showcased the centre’s legal reforms.“After 2026, when an FIR is filed, on an average, it will be disposed of in 3 years,” Shah said, asserting that the new legal regime will put an end to ‘tareekh pe tareekh’ (repeated adjournments) in courts. He added that the restructured legal framework will enable timely justice, with a targeted average case resolution period of three years.

Shah also inaugurated a series of development initiatives rolled out by the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government in the state. “The people of Haryana, along with former CM ML Khattar and current CM Nayab Singh Saini, have left no stone unturned in the state’s development. For the first time, a BJP government in Haryana has focused on comprehensive development across all sectors,” Shah said. The home minister also said that Haryana had given the BJP a third consecutive term, which he said reflected people’s trust in the party’s governance.Earlier in the day, while speaking in Rohtak, Shah shifted focus to the cooperative and rural sectors. Criticising previous governments, he said, “After Independence, Congress forgot about khadi, they did nothing for its promotion.” He credited the current administration of PM Modi for reviving the sector, stating that the khadi and village industries commission’s turnover has increased to Rs 1.70 lakh crore, up from Rs 33,000 crore in 2014–15.He further announced that under white revolution 2.0, over 75,000 dairy cooperatives will be set up, adding that India’s dairy sector has grown by 70 per cent in the past 11 years, making it the fastest-growing globally.“If the kind of work done in the past 11 years had been done right after Independence, we would never have faced the problem of unemployment,” he added.
