We didn’t make anyone wait for the presentation ceremony. Trophy leke bhaag gaye woh (They ran away with the trophy). That’s what I saw. I don’t know, some people were making a video of us, but we were standing. We didn’t go inside,” Surya said.
A video that surfaced online showed an official removing the trophy after Naqvi left the stage, fuelling further controversy. Reports suggested that Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni was meant to hand over the trophy, but the plan was blocked by Naqvi.

Suryakumar also quashed speculation that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the government had directed the players to snub Naqvi.WATCH: An official taking away the trophy “First of all, let me make it clear, no one from the Government or the BCCI told us anything throughout the tournament. We took that decision on our own on the ground. Some in the crowd started booing. And then we saw someone who was their representative taking the trophy and running away,” he explained. The delayed ceremony also saw Pakistan’s players arrive late, adding to the confusion. Eventually, runners-up medals for Pakistan were distributed, and India celebrated without the trophy in hand.Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will be filing a formal complaint against Naqvi’s actions, calling the incident “unprecedented and unacceptable.”India may have secured their ninth Asia Cup crown, but the final will be remembered as much for the dramatic off-field theatrics as for the thrilling on-field battle.
