A very familiar face in Indian cricket will lead the side at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, bringing experience and wicketkeeping flair to the quickfire format. Tournament organisers on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Team India’s new captain for the three-day event scheduled from November 7 to 9. Known for his aggressive batting style and sharp tactics, the veteran has often found ways to leave a mark despite an international career that rarely found consistency. R Ashwin had created quite the intrigue when he gave fans a small teaser of the same, saying, “This format requires a different strategy and will prove to be high octane which I am looking forward to play alongside my ex-teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in the opposition teams, it will be a good challenge for us”. The 39-year-old veteran spinner too, will don the jersey of Team India for the tournament. Ashwin called time on his IPL career on August 27.The newly named skipper went on to play vital roles, but inconsistently, given the fact that MS Dhoni had firmly established behind the stumps, making his opportunities limited. The cricketer’s domestic record, however, tells a different story. He crossed 1000 first-class runs in the 2008-09 season, with five centuries, including a double-ton, leading Tamil Nadu into the Ranji Trophy semi-finals.

What did remain steady was his value in the IPL, where franchises repeatedly backed him with big-money signings, from Delhi Daredevils to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions. His attacking skill, quick footwork and ability to sweep spinners made him a reliable contributor in the league.
