Air India crash: Supreme Court questions preliminary report suggesting pilot error; calls it 'unfortunate'

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to Centre, directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) and aircraft accident investigation bureau (AAIB), seeking an independent, fair and expeditious probe into the June 12 Air India crash.A bench of justices, Justices Surya Kant and NK Singh, said that a sentence from the AAIB preliminary probe report blaming pilot error for the crash was “unfortunate.” The apex court war hearing a PIL seeking an independent and court-monitored investigation into the Air India crash that occurred on June 12, killing 260 people, including passengers, crew and persons on the ground. Safety Matters Foundation, which filed the petition, alleged that the manner in which the investigation was conducted violated fundamental rights to life, equality, and truthful information.
