NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing, Aam Aadmi Students’ Association (ASAP), announced that it would not contest this year’s Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, opting instead to focus on strengthening its base at the college level. ASAP leaders said the decision was part of a long-term strategy to prioritise student issues over electoral gains. The organisation maintained that it planned to contest next year’s polls with “full preparation and force.”

In recent months, ASAP secured unopposed victories in two colleges, including the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPE), where candidates Palak Gupta and Anuriti Yadav were elected without contest. The outfit said these results reflected the “trust and support of students.” ASAP has been raising demands such as free metro travel for students, more hostel and library facilities, and a reduction in high fees. Leaders claimed that the group’s focus on concrete issues had helped it gain recognition as a student-centric organisation. Party functionaries indicated that the organisation would soon launch wider campus campaigns across DU, aiming to reach students directly and position itself as a strong contender in future elections.
