Madurai witnessed scenes of frenzy on Thursday as former India captain MS Dhoni arrived in the city to inaugurate a newly built international-standard cricket stadium. Several hundreds of fans thronged the Madurai airport, chanting “Dhoni, Dhoni” as the Chennai Super Kings skipper made his entry wearing his trademark sunglasses and casual attire. Videos circulating on social media showed the 44-year-old waving at supporters who had gathered well in advance to catch a glimpse of the two-time World Cup-winning captain.
The new facility, named the Velammal Cricket Stadium, has been developed by the Velammal Educational Trust in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).
