India started the day at 121/2 with Gill and Rahul at the crease. The opening over from Jayden Seales saw Rahul collect two boundaries, though the second came off an edge.
West Indies bowlers maintained tight control for the next six overs before both batsmen found boundaries off Justin Greaves in the 46th over, taking India past 150 runs.
The batting pair then increased the scoring rate with Gill hitting three boundaries to help India surpass West Indies’ first innings total of 162 before the drinks break.
Gill reached his eighth Test fifty in 94 balls with five fours. However, while attempting a reverse sweep off Roston Chase, similar to Rahul’s earlier shot against Greaves, he was caught in the slips after scoring 50 off 100 balls. This ended the 98-run partnership between Gill and Rahul.
India reached 200 runs in 60.5 overs after Jurel joined Rahul at the crease. Rahul went on to complete his century, his first on home soil since scoring 199 against England in 2016, reaching the milestone in 190 balls with 12 fours.
