Indian cricket all-rounder Hardik Pandya expressed disappointment at missing the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan due to a left quadriceps injury, where India secured their ninth title with a five-wicket victory. Pandya, who participated in all six matches leading up to the final before being replaced by Rinku Singh, shared his thoughts on India’s successful campaign in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).“I was very gutted to miss the most important game, but the way the boys played was outstanding. They showed a lot of character,” Pandya said in the BCCI video.
India demonstrated their dominance throughout the tournament, maintaining an undefeated streak and successfully chasing down the target of 147 runs in 19.4 overs during the final match.“These games are going to help us in the long run where we will be tested, we will be put under pressure. The way we held our nerves was fantastic,” Pandya commented on the team’s performance. The tournament showcased India’s ability to adapt and perform under pressure, with only a few matches presenting significant challenges to the team.“T20 cricket is about that, come and dominate, play a fearless brand, and at the same point of time learn and adapt, I think this team is learning that,” Pandya reflected on the team’s approach.A standout performer in the tournament was opener Abhishek Sharma, who accumulated over 300 runs with an impressive strike rate of 200, contributing significantly to India’s success.“Outstanding effort by Abhishek from the top – the way he played and the fearlessness he showed, half of the game he won for us in the Power Play itself,” Pandya praised his teammate’s performance.Pandya’s own contribution to the tournament included taking four wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 8.57, sharing new ball duties with pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah.“I have always enjoyed any role that I am given, and this time I was handed over the new ball, which I really enjoyed. Batting has always been there, whenever the team requires, as that’s the way I like to bat,” Pandya shared about his role. The all-rounder emphasized his commitment to bowling, highlighting it as his primary focus in recent times.“Bowling has been my No. 1 priority for a long time now, if Hardik Pandya bowls then batting is never a problem. I treat myself as a pure fast bowler and I have taken a lot of pride in that. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of discipline, and it has been a constant which I really enjoy,” Pandya elaborated on his bowling priorities. The victory marked India’s record-extending ninth Asia Cup title, reinforcing their dominance in continental cricket competitions.
