New Delhi: The World Para Athletics Championships will be held on India’s first outdoor Mondo track at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium from Sept 26 to Oct 5. According to the government, the newly-laid track was completed in a record time of four months at an allocated cost of Rs 24.25 crore. World Para Athletics (WPA) chief Paul Fitzgerald stated that the country’s investment in the Mondo track should be well worth it. “Like all new facilities, we will know for sure when athletes arrive and begin testing the surface. I am sure we will find smiles on their faces and plenty of records as proof that investment was well worth it for these championships,” Fitzgerald told TOI. The American said that choosing India to host the event was significant amid the current momentum in global para sports. “India has nurtured and transformed para sports over the past decade, making incredible strides. This truly makes India the ideal host for a championship of this scale,” he added.
